Latin Pulse: 5.06.2016

Another push to recall a president and the power of remittances provide the twin themes this week on Latin Pulse. The program analyzes the latest moves with diplomacy and electoral laws to recall President Nicolas Maduro or at least restore some balance to the eroded democratic system in Venezuela.  The program reviews the debate between Argentina and Venezuela at the Organization of American States (OAS).  The program also includes the second part of our extended look at the links between remittances and globalization.  The news segment of the program includes the latest developments regarding the debt crisis in Puerto Rico.

Latin Pulse: 11.21.2013

Mexican cinema takes a well deserved bow on Latin Pulse this week in this 60-minute special. The program gives a full review of the history of Mexico's contributions to theatrical film-making and the influence of key Mexican film-makers now on global cinema.  This special program includes segments of a one-on-one interview with Arturo Ripstein, an award-winning Mexican director.  Ripstein discusses his influences and the program shows his impact on the current Mexican cinema scene.  The news segment of the program covers the presidential debate in Costa Rica in preparation for elections in 2014.

Latin Pulse: 7.12.2013

For a summer change of pace, this week Latin Pulse travels to New York City for the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC).  The program explores both musical and cultural issues linked to the conference, and highlights music from various countries and regions including: Mexico, Argentina, Panama, and Puerto Rico.  The program traces the roots of alternative music from salsa through rock and rap.  The news segment covers the latest complaints from Latin American governments regarding the revelations of Edward Snowden regarding NSA spying on various governments in the region.
