Latin Pulse: 9.12.2013

Wrapping up a series of special reports on Venezuela, Latin Pulse looks at a variety of topics across the Venezuelan political landscape, including the role of the military, police, crime, human rights, corruption, and economics. The program also includes more discussion of accusations by the Venezuelan government that the United States is involved in economic destabilization of the Venezuelan government.  The news segment of the program looks at reaction in Chile to the 40th anniversary this week of the coup by Gen. Augusto Pinochet in both Chile and in Washington, D.C.  The program also includes a commentary on Chile.

Latin Pulse: 7.03.2013

Freedom and democracy are key themes this week on Latin Pulse. The struggle for freedom in Cuba is the subject of a special in-depth report on this program that looks at how dissidents are using the internet and technology to oppose the government of Raul Castro. Advances in democracy underline the discussion of elections and politics in Chile.  The program looks at the political scene in Chile after the primary win of former President Michelle Bachelet as she attempts to return to power.  The news segment covers the latest diplomatic maneuvers in Latin America regarding Edward Snowden who revealed the depth of NSA domestic spying.

This week, Latin Pulse takes a look at two very different dissident movements.  First, a concentration on the crackdown against anti-Castro groups in Cuba after the visit of Pope Benedict XVI.  Then the program shifts farther south to look at the Chilean student movement and why those students are setting an example for groups around the globe.  The program also includes the latest on the Secret Service sex scandal which may have spread from Colombia to include El Salvador.
